Edith Mary Hollings

A life of quiet kindness and unwavering faith.
Their life
Edith was born and raised in Handsworth, the eldest of four sisters. She trained as a nurse at Dudley Road Hospital in 1956 and spent her entire career in maternity care, helping to bring thousands of Birmingham babies safely into the world.
She married Frank in 1960 at St. Mary's, where she would later sing in the choir for over five decades. Together they raised three children and welcomed eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren — every one of them photographed and proudly displayed on her sideboard.
Edith's garden on Rookery Road was a local landmark each summer, and she rarely let a visitor leave without a slice of her famous lemon drizzle cake.

Messages & memories
Edith trained me as a student midwife in 1978. Her calm under pressure shaped my entire career. With deepest sympathy to the family.
We will miss her cuttings, her cake, and most of all her company. The summer show won't be the same.
