In memory of Geoffrey "Geoff" Saunders

Geoffrey "Geoff" Saunders

3 September 1942 – 24 July 2026

Pilot, husband, father — a quiet hero with a wicked sense of humour.

Their life

Geoff joined the Royal Air Force in 1960 and served for twenty-two years as a navigator, completing tours in Germany, Cyprus and Singapore. He always said the best thing the RAF ever gave him was a posting to Cosford — where he met June at a station dance in 1965.

After leaving the service he taught mathematics at King Edward VI in Aston for nearly two decades, where former pupils still recall his patience and his terrible jokes.

In retirement Geoff restored a 1959 Triumph motorcycle, took up watercolour painting (badly, by his own admission), and never missed a Sunday lunch with his grandchildren Lily, Tom and Olivia.
